My philosophy of care is to provide the most up-to-date care, while also being very cost conscious. If there are several ways to approach something, I’ll discuss the options with the patient and then, unless there’s a serious or life-threatening condition, I generally recommend the most conservative course of action.
Before I make a decision, I sit down with patients and say to them, “I’m going to tell you what I think you should do — but it’s up to you to decide if you want do it.” I’m not their parent or their buddy. We’re equal partners in their healthcare. I’m there to help them face challenges and maintain their health. They’re here to put things into action. I do my part and they do theirs.
